Clinical training opportunities

The CDDHV is constantly on the lookout for opportunities to increase the awareness and knowledge of healthcare professionals, students (both post graduate and undergraduate), GPs, and specialists of the field of developmental disability health management.

On the clinical side we have offered clinical training positions to both GP and Psychiatry registrars, 'selectives' and also clinical observation sessions for medical students, and we encourage GPs to attend to observe or participate in our consultations with their patients.

The main clinical consultation room in our new clinical setting at Oakleigh has a one-way observation window and microphones to allow consultations to be observed and heard, with appropriate consent, in the adjacent room. This is ideal for small groups of students, at any level, to observe the real consultations by our very experienced clinicians with people with a developmental disability, and to have the opportunity to discuss their observations with the clinician afterwards. Feedback from students indicate a strong desire for this type of experience.
